About Kumbr

Kumbr was born out of the founder’s frustrations in searching for meaningful relationships that could lead to marriage as an expat in Europe.

Dating in the West is broken. It encourages unlimited matches, non-commitment and non-transparency which results in broken hearts while significantly increasing the time it takes to find people who hold the family, cultural and spiritual values that lead to strong marriages and communities like we have maintained in Africa.

With increasing geographic mobility, retaining our faith, culture and values creates the foundations of a fulfilling relationship, marriage and family life in wherever we call home.

We have to make peace with the reality that dating is transiting online. We are not here to bend reality but to support you to find meaningful relationships like you do in the real world.

Although we are in a crowded [dating] market, we are not for everyone. We are here to support beautiful souls who still cherish traditional courtship, and believe in the sanctity of marriage driven by a strong faith, family values and support for culture and community.

Kumbr is not for you if you

  • want a fling: there are lots of options: bars, clubs, and all the other dating or hookup apps. We focus on fostering meaningful relationships that lead to marriage.
  • are agnostic or atheist: all the other apps already solve for this. We focus on people who intend to retain [and deepen their] faith.
  • are not-conservative: all the other apps already solve for this. We focus on heterosexual relationships that lead to marriage.
  • are not transparent: all the other apps already solve for this. We will verify your profile via LinkedIn to make the experience safer and more rewarding for everyone.

Kumbr is for you if you are

  • an African in the diaspora: primarily to connect to Africans in cities near you, Africans back home open to relocate, people of African descent and non-Africans open to Africans.
  • an African in Africa: primarily to connect to Africans in the diaspora if you intend to relocate.
  • of African heritage: parent(s) or grandparent(s) etc from Africa, a chance to reconnect with your roots.
  • a non-African open to Africans: if you have an affinity for Africans, here is your chance to find them in abundance.
